It is often hard for students to find something that they are interested in reading. An updated reading center with high-interest books would bring new life to our classroom. I am also requesting post-it notes with lines on them. My ESL and bilingual students find it easier to just stare at picture books, without engaging with them. I have seen first-hand reluctant readers absolutely SHINE when they find something to read that they are passionate about. These books also help us compare, contrast, and make valuable connections. Reading informational texts helps students learn more vocabulary words, build background knowledge, and help them discover new interests.
