The materials requested will be used to put a coffee business in place that will be run and operated by our students with disabilities. Purchasing these materials for my students will provide them an opportunity to gain experience and better themselves as future employees. Specifically, they will learn how to manage money, budget their money, follow multi-step orders, and develop appropriate and professional social skills. They will learn this through operating a business using these materials to sell coffee to their teachers within the school building. They will take orders weekly, collect money, make change, fulfill the orders, and deliver the drinks. The money made selling coffee will in turn be used to support the students' learning in the classroom or within the community through community based instruction, which is used to help students generalize information that is learned in the classroom.
Experience is key. The lessons learned throughout the school year with the use of this coffee cart will better them as students, professionals, and individuals as they develop a sense of contribution and pride from the work they do to contribute to their teachers and peers.
