The supplies that I am asking for will be used by my students in and out of the classroom. The horticulture supplies will help my students learn how to use aquaponics and hydroponics, which is something of the future for horticulture. I want them to get a hands on experience that they can remember. The supplies that I am requesting are a hydroponics study unit where my students can practice growing plants in a soil-less media, a complete aquaculture system with 55 gallon barrels that allow my students to see how plants and fish can work to create a good ecosystem for production of plants and fish and a combination test kit for aquaculture which will be used by my students to test the water and components to ensure a safe and productive environment for the fish used in the aquaculture unit.
By studying aquaponics and hydroponics my students will have the skills for a cutting edge in horticulture. The students will be able to utilize technology with horticulture and learn how to care for this project along with learning the science behind it. The students will do this project as not only a classroom application, but also as a SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) with our school's chapter FFA. They will learn first hand the future of horticulture.
