We created Book Club because we have students who love to read, but don't always get the chance to read what they want to read in class. Now that we've lost our librarian, their opportunities to read for pleasure are even more limited. But our kids here don't just want to read, they LOVE to read. We meet monthly to discuss books, connect them to our lives, and create multi-genre projects around our reading. But we want to expand our horizons-- we'd like to take a trip to a book store (which many have NEVER done!) or go see a film version of a book we read, and we would like to create our own Free Little Library inside Roosevelt so kids can swap books at any time. No matter what is happening at home, or in their neighborhoods, our students want to read. Why? Because a book is a safe haven. And our kids need that safe haven, that escape, that displacement, that dream. Please help us keep these kids reading!!
