Softball has been the avenue in which I have been able to complete my education, travel the country and made life long friends. Softball can provide many opportunities for that my students have not had the means or funding to pursue. The purchase of new gloves and team bats will provide my student athletes access to the proper equipment others can afford.
We currently have several used gloves that are in need of major repair or that are made out of a plastic material not suitable for use at a higher level of competition. I worry about the safety of these young ladies especially once we get into game situations and they are using one of these gloves. I have donated several of my own personal gloves for them to use and purchased another for my left-handed throwers. New bats offer the girls an opportunity to at least swing a bat that is antiquated or that is too heavy for them to handle. The bats that were chosen are some of the best and will allow us to start hitting the ball harder and farther than what we currently have.
Being part of a team allows them to be part of something bigger than themselves. These young ladies have found a great supportive environment and sisterhood that helps to keep them focused on staying academically focused while learning how to work as a team. These life experiences continue to provide opportunities to grow into strong, independent women who can face the world head on.
