Funding this project will equip our newly established multi-sensory and cool down room with tools and activities our students can use to decrease over-stimulation, anxiety, and fear while increasing coping and cool-down strategies when students become frustrated or angry. Some students have bad days and simply need a hug and a quick visit to the sensory room.
Our students spend a large amount of time in the classroom but some students are not able to complete this task; they simply need a break. The purpose of our room is to help students calm down and focus on school. We will help those students take a break through the use of objects like bubble lighting, fidget toys and blocks, spin disks and swings, pressure mates and wet sand. We hope hope a short visit to the room can help just about any student. Calmer students return to the classroom, which can help increase student success in test scores, attendance and behavior.
