I am a Special Education Teacher, my caseload consist of students who qualify for services under the mild/moderate criteria. My students have a variety of needs, but mostly my students deal with high anxiety, depression, mild learning disabilities, and emotional disabilities. There is a room connected to my classroom that I typically use for testing, however, students tend to use the space when they are having moments of high emotional distress. They tend to de-escalate a lot faster in this room. Unfortunately, this room is not designed for that need, there is a table and chairs, but the students tend to lay on the hard floor curled up when they are in that emotional state. By having two bean bags and giving the room a little love, I feel the room could be a more positive comfortable calm space for their emotional needs.
The profile picture shows a student in the de-escalation room, we are working as a class to organize and clean the room. My students are excited.
