My students are quite smart and may speak excellent Spanish but read English at below grade level. They have difficulty finding books that are at their reading level but engaging to their intellect. After looking at a lot of options, I believe Seedfolks, a collection of short vignettes about a diverse community coming together, is an ideal book to read as a class. Unfortunately, the school's copies of the book are coming apart and missing pages, and I would like to order a new classroom set. As a class, we will go over each vignette several times, both hoping to understand the words of the text, and use the book as a springboard into higher-level discussion of the novel's themes.
