School Grounds is the solution that students developed to solve their problem.
School Grounds is a student-run, self-sustaining coffee shop business designed to provide students with an opportunity to grow their skills while providing a dedicated revenue stream to realize student passions and ideas.
The goals of School Grounds are twofold. The first being to leverage real world experiences that develop the skills required for all students to be agents in their learning. Opportunities for students to learn and practice these skills are limited in a traditional educational setting. School Grounds provides this opportunity. Each semester, students, regardless of ability, have the chance to serve by volunteering their time at School Grounds. Skills will be presented as part of a continuum and will be taught and modeled. The number of students and the skills mastered will be recorded annually. The second being to provide the means for students to create and fund their learning. The revenue generated from School Grounds will be available to students through partnerships with community organizations who need additional resources. The amount of revenue will be measured annually.
