Our students meet each week in the library for a Makerspace class. As part of that class, we learn the basics of coding. Botley, The Coding Robot would fit right into our classroom.
Our library often struggles to find coding resources appropriate for our young students (Pre-K through 1st Grade). Often robotics programs are designed for students in higher elementary grades. In addition, our school has limited numbers of computers for student use. The Botley robot does not need a dedicated computer but is self sufficient which is a big advantage in our school. In addition, the Botley robot is hands-on. While using the robot, they can self-direct and personalize their learning experience.
Botley, The Coding Robot is great for teaching rudimentary sequential thinking that is essential for learning coding. We will use it as a part of a center rotation in our library so everyone will get a chance to use it. It is important that every student to get a chance to explore what they can do without restrictions or labels.
