In 2006, I organized and coached the first basketball team at my school. As a new team, we received a new scoreboard for use in practices and games. It was made of hard plastic and the numbers were made of vinyl, to be flipped by hand every time points were scored. Over the years the board has been put to good use in many games. Now, it sits on a shelf because it is so worn that is can no longer serve its purpose.
A new electronic digital scoreboard for school sports would will help students and parents easily keep track of the score, and they will be able how teamwork and improvements in their skills can earn points. This would also be helpful in understanding the rules of many sports. It will help students know the outcome of game situations. Overall, it will help with any confusion in score keeping and possession of a ball by eliminating the need for continuous hand turning of the score numbers. The scoreboard will also provide the school and community with a sense of ownership, being able to use the equipment now and in the future. The students, teachers, parents and community would be proud to have new technology in our sports programs!
