We will be reading these two books and analyzing the text. We will also be completing two visual projects, where students can represent the key ideas from the text. I also want to prepare them in a fun and culturally responsive way for state testing.
My hope is that reading this text will allow my students to explore creativity, and increase their emotional intelligence. After watching Fences I was thrilled to introduce this story to my students as they understand there is greatness and flaws in every human being. I also want them to understand that life doesn't owe them anything. While reading The Skin I'm In, I want my students to know they share insecurities and how to overcome the insecurities that life as a teenager often brings.
