Currently, my students have to frequently leave the classroom for sensory breaks. Creating a classroom that integrates sensory needs into the environment and the learning is vital in keeping my students happy and engaged, subsequently allowing them to learn and develop more.
By providing sensory integration in the classroom, I can create a safe and effective learning environment for all of my students. Currently, when students become agitated, over-stimulated, or under-stimulated, my options are limited. An under-desk bike pedal will help students stay with their peers when they require movement breaks. Without an in-class options, I need to leave the room with my student and go to the basement to ride a stationary bike. Instructional time for the specific student is lost, as well as instructional time for the rest of the class. Using the Desk-er-ciser will help some students engage in less harmful sensory-seeking behavior, and instead receive the muscle stimulation they crave in a safe manner. Additionally, since it's portable, I can bring it with to assemblies and field trips as needed. The ball chair will offer another seating option for students who learn better in non-traditional seating.
Sensory integration can help students become and remain calm, focus better, and stay more engaged in class. These materials will help me to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that is vital for my students' growth and success.
