Our Oklahoma Pass standards require me to teach how to use an almanac. I find it tough to get our students interested in facts that are not very current. Our current ones are from 2006, well before my students were born. The looks on my students faces are priceless when they see that our current Almanacs are older than them.
Of course, I love teaching them how to use an almanac and how to find all the superlatives hidden inside. We play a learning game with them where the students are detectives and some of the facts they they look up to verify are in them. Also, I'm going to put together almanac bingo to help students with different learning styles. Plus my students get to find out who won the Super Bowls and World Series up to last year!
