I am planning on making the transition from traditional seating of classroom desks to flexible seating. Everything I do in my classroom is based on research and the best practices for my students. My goal with this project is to increase student motivation and engagement, collaboration with each other, and provide student choice in their own learning. Problem solvers today = problem solvers tomorrow. Our classroom environments should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. I believe this simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day. Students need to have choice and awareness as to what learning space/seating works for them. I believe learning will also improve because flexible seating allows for more movement, boosting oxygen to the brain, and improving core strength and posture. I can't express how excited I am to redesign my classroom and take the leap to flexible seating! The materials for this project will directly improve student learning, engagement, focus, critical thinking, and collaboration. I want my students to WANT to come to school!
