I teach English as a New Language to 4th and 5th grade students in the heart of Brooklyn. These diverse learners are varied in their languages, cultures, prior experiences, years living in America, and cognitive abilities. Yet, despite these differences, there is a common thread: these children are all acquiring English. I have the challenging, yet rewarding, job of implementing instruction that promotes engagement, higher order thinking, and most importantly, access to language. I work with students in a space that is calm, inviting, and safe, thanks to the success of my previous Donor's Choose projects! I will continue to find ways to best support the deserving children I teach.
