Many of my students have never been able to travel out of our town. I have chosen several novels this year to teach. However, I plan to begin with The Giver. The Giver is about a 12 year old boy who believes he lives in utopia. However, when he is given an assignment, he realizes there is more than he ever imagined. I want the students to realize that there is more to life than the circumstances that they are in now. I want them to realize that they are not bystanders in this world, but they can be the change.

About my class
