This project will give the students project-based, hands-on learning experiences. They will program and use aerial robots ("drones") to create computer generated maps of the Yellowstone River, over seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer). They will be measuring things such as riparian plant growth, water flow, water channel creation as well as channel destruction.
Students will use/create GPS-based maps to pinpoint river data over time. They will use the bird's eye view information regarding the river's health, and quantitative information along with resources drawn from other classrooms, community organizations and government agencies. The hope is to increase interest in engineering and science.
