Students will use the wiggle cushions at their tables to maintain posture and strengthen their core muscles as they learn to control their movements. The seat cushions will help direct energy levels and develop focus within the classroom when students are expected to be at their tables. We will also use them for periodic "stretching and exercising" breaks as needed during the school day. Furthermore, we will bring these cushions outside with us when we walk to our "sit spot" and outdoor classroom.
Numerous studies show the benefits of using these cushions in the classroom, not only for students with ADHD and autism, but for many other children as well. The cushion is not the only tool I will use in the classroom, but it is one that will help the students be more motivated and ready to learn as well as promote a healthier and active lifestyle. I will teach the students how to use the cushions as well as lead them through activities to stretch and strengthen their core muscles.
