My students are high school juniors and seniors who are part of our alternative education system. Our school provides a small environment with unique teachers creating unique lessons. Our students are responsive, motivated, and dedicated to completing their high school education.
Our students thrive in unique environments, and a comfortable and creative outdoor learning environment would catapult them to the next level of learning. Even teenagers need a break from the indoor classroom environment, with basic desks, hard chairs, and restricted room to move. This space will be created next to our memorial garden and will include flexible seating, shade canopy, and a heater. Our memorial garden is a beautiful space that was created to honor a teacher who passed away in 2017 Imagine how much better a student can focus if they are allowed unrestricted movement in a comfortable outdoor space! Our leadership team will be in charge of creating the outdoor classroom alongside the memorial garden. This provides our leadership team with the applied learning experience of building and creating a space for themselves and their classmates to utilize. By allowing the students to take part in the creation of the space, creates buy-in and a sense of pride, ownership, and care for our students.
