Because of the school and community's limited budgets, students have no access to instruments, even those as inexpensive as recorders. Having these instruments and supplies will give students something to look forward to when they arrive at school. It allows them to have a creative outlet for their frustrations, as well as for self-expression. It will also promote the making of music, which is important to a well-rounded education.
Playing recorders will teach the fundamentals of music theory while allowing the student to feel a sense of accomplishment because of mastering an instrument. The musical experience is absolutely essential to the high school experience, opening an entire new world of communication to students.
