Many students that spend time working in my Learning Lab struggle with attention, focus, and engagement of work. Receiving flexible seating options, stability balls, wobble chairs, and wobble cushions, for my students will give them the chance to shake some wiggles while remaining engaged in learning.
Brain research confirms that physical activity – bouncing, moving, and stretching – can actually enhance the learning process. Eric Jensen (2000), in his article Moving with the Brain in Mind, protests against the sedentary classroom style and suggests a better way to spend the long days in our classrooms. Students can not be expected to sit in the same place/position for hours each day and remain focused or attentive to learning.
