These books will allow my students to explore the lives of children from minority cultures from around the world, and make connections to their own experiences. My students absolutely love listening to and reading books that allow them to be transported around the world, learning about different cultures and peoples' experiences, and then engaging in discussions.
Research shows that diverse books allow children to identify themselves in the stories they read and gain an appreciation for others whose lives are different from theirs.
This will help my students improve their literacy outcomes for comprehension, critical thinking, problem solving, and supports their social emotional learning too.
