As you know students have a lot of energy! While movement and breaks are incorporated into our activities many of my students could use an extra boost to help them stay focused. In 7th grade the rigor is increasing and so too the amount of stamina and concentration needed. Students write five paragraph essays, read for prolonged periods of time, do research on computers, and watch documentaries about the most current issues happening around our world.
Having a set of noise canceling headphones, wiggle seats, and fidgets will help my students channel their energy into productivity! Some students need a way to release excess energy. The wiggle seats and fidgets will give them a way to do that and to stay focused on their work. The head phones will help students who need silence to help them focus. As you can imagine in a class of 20 or more students absolute silence can be hard to come by.
These tools will give my students the physical support they need to be successful. By having a large set of these materials the stigma of who is using an assistive tool will be reduced and ensure all kids have access if it works for them.
