My students are in dire need of a class set of calculators. The majority of my students are unable to afford a calculator at home, and having a calculator assigned to them in class would be extremely beneficial. With everyone in the class using the same calculator, it will streamline instruction and allow the students to learn how to use the tools effectively. However, we do not have a class set of calculators, and only a few students in each class own a calculator.
Because our classrooms lack the necessary tools for instruction, my students' learning is being hindered each and every day. We have to move through each lesson so much slower because my students are required to do the work by hand or share calculators with their classmates. When we are graphing, the students have to draw their own graphs and aren't able to study transformations of graphs as easily as those who have calculators. Having a class set of calculators would really help to facilitate my students' learning experiences.
In fact, because we live in such a rural area, many of my students lack the appropriate materials needed for class everyday. It would be a dream come true if I could have a station where students could go at the beginning of each class to pick up their assigned calculator, pencil, and some paper to take notes. Having a materials station would greatly benefit each of my students and would greatly contribute to their learning.
