A school garden is a living laboratory for students to be able to apply concepts they learn in the classroom to a long-term project they are passionate about. For my students with cognitive disabilities, working on a garden together means using social skills such as teamwork, responsibility, patience and ownership.
A garden bed would give my students the opportunity to see how food is grown, use it to create healthy, nutritious recipes, and learn about the science behind horticulture.
This garden would truly be a dream, as it would benefit my students social-emotional and cognitive skills while engaging their curiosity and creativity.
