As an adult when the world around me gets stressful I have learned to take a moment and calm myself down before tackling the problem or situation at hand. I am sure many of you can relate.
I have noticed this year that many of my students have trouble understanding how they feel. Then once they know how they feel what to do with those feelings. Sometimes these feeling come out by the student being over active and distracting to the class. Other students are quiet and withdraw themselves form participating in class. I would like to teach my student how to be mindful of how they are feeling. Then most importantly understanding what do do with those feelings. A sensory corner will give my students the individualized methods they need to calm down and feel ready to rejoin the class. After mini lessons about, the different feelings and specific strategies to help with those feelings, students would be able to use the sensory corner whenever they needed it.
My goal is to make my students mindful to the way they are feeling. This will help them be successful when dealing with the stresses that they may encounter in the classroom and the world.
