I am a new teacher, so my collection of teaching materials is very small. Now that the school year has begun, I have discovered that there are a few items my special education classroom needs. The most important thing is a document camera. This allows me to project a worksheet onto the white board so that we can practice as a group. My students really benefit from direct instruction and this allows me to work through problems step by step and many students can follow along.
My students need math manipulatives to help them learn important math concepts in a hands-on way. We also need card stock to make hard sturdy copies of visual aids such as number lines and hundreds charts that students can keep in their desks and reference often.
Lastly I requested a small globe because we have a very small classroom and cannot fit a large one. We are starting our geography unit next month and every student needs to see, touch and experience a globe firsthand.
