In kindergarten, our students learn best when they are playing. Playing is developmentally appropriate for them and keeps them engaged for longer periods of time. We would like to incorporate many social studies standards and life lessons into their play to help them prepare for the years to come.
We want our students to become contributing members of the global community. Many of our students come from poverty. Challenges that go along with poverty can include limited attention, reduced empathy and sympathy, an inability to solve everyday problems, and an inability to regulate and respond to their feelings appropriately. Our hope is that these dolls, toys, and puppets, along with our teaching, can give students the necessary skills that they will need to become global citizens.
