Managing behavior is a constant struggle in my speech room! Many of my students have difficulty learning because they have trouble paying attention and are constantly fidgeting! You can imagine the type of distractions that arise in a school- to name a few, there are announcements, loud hallways, and other speech therapy sessions in the same room (this happens!). I struggle to find ways to focus my students, and one way is to give them something to do with their hands! Research has shown that students with ADHD are more focused when they're allowed to fidget at their desks. I would like to provide multiple types of fidget toys for my students to see which works best for each of them who need this type of support.
This project will help lessen the behavior issues in my classroom, and more work will be completed when students are able to focus.
And work is always more fun when it feels like play! My students also need language and phonics materials that will be motivating for them. For my phonics students, using a stamp pad will make reading more fun. My language students will love creating discussions and stories about silly picture cards, and playing card games while strengthening their language arts skills. Lastly, laminating pouches will provide me with the opportunity to create fun long-lasting projects and games for my students.
