I am requesting twenty Accusplit Event stopwatches for my students to use when conducting labs. There is an emphasis on engagement and hands-on learning in my classroom so we do a lot of labs. Many of the labs that are already developed require the students to time various phenomenon. Students also design their own labs in which many of them require time to be collected as data.
Stopwatches will allow the students to accurately collect data to be analyzed. There are two labs in the Nature of Science unit that require stopwatches (i.e. Metric System Lab and Zip-line Lab). We also do many labs in Physical Science requiring recorded time.
We have begged and borrowed from the 8th grade, however many of theirs are broken and there are not enough, or made due with my phone as a timer for the class as a whole. Having individual stopwatches for each group will allow the students to be more independent thinkers. They'll discover the wonders of science for themselves!
