I have been an educator for 20+ years. I taught 3rd grade for 12 years and now I have the privilege to be serving as the library media specialist for the whole school. In my years in the library, I have found that school libraries can be a very effective tool in closing the achievement gap for less fortunate and minority students. Even though all students benefit from effective libraries, students who are hindered by the achievement gap benefit the most from the resources and services offered by libraries and librarians. It is my goal to create a library program that gives my students a better chance to succeed by creating critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information who are ready for 21st century life and careers.
