Research has demonstrated that students who have the opportunity to make choices in the classroom perform better academically.
In my classroom, one of the choices that students are able to make is where and how they sit. This is called 'flexible seating' or alternative seating. This is my second year using flexible seating in my classroom and I have noticed an improvement in classroom community, student relations, problem solving, and academic performance.
My students are able to stand, sit in bean bags, rocking chairs, yoga balls, and regular chairs. This project will provide my kiddos with specially designed chairs that wiggle and wobble with them, allowing them to get their energy out while working their hardest!
