The document camera will help present the lesson to my young first grade students. During remote learning my students will continue to enjoy read aloud time. Every book can become a big book with a document camera. I can zoom and emphasize certain texts or pictures. I can also project the image onto a white board and highlight or underline text by drawing on the whiteboard.
I will also use the document camera as a science tool. I can magnify bugs, examine rocks, or even look through a microscope. Even after returning to the physical classroom I can continue to use the document reader for science class.
During math I would project graphs on the white board. I can make math fun by showing grouping, adding, and subtracting using cubes or another manipulative. The document camera allows zooming in on such items as a calculator or ruler to show inches. All the traditional math tools can be viewed in detail with a document camera.
In addition, I can project handwriting lines to practice not only handwriting, but also writing conventions. It's useful to project a student's work sheet and highlight important areas.
