In our playground we currently have a couple of old plastic structures which are missing parts so we cannot use them. A sand box would be a great first addition to our new outdoor classroom. Our students will be able to learn in many ways through playing in the sand box.
They can learn about gravity, shapes, structure and balance through building with sand. They can use their imaginations to create tiny worlds with sand castles and sand people living in them. Play in the sand box will help students collaborate, communicate and help develop their social-emotional skills.
Most of all this will be FUN! I plan to expand and add a lot to our outdoor classroom and I think this will be a great first step. Every child loves playing in sand and since we live in the mountains, I expect there will be a lot of pretend beach days in the future!
