To start, I am an itinerant teacher in the county where I work. I go from school to school daily. I started doing ukulele with the few that I have last year and the kids love it! Many of them have taken an interest in expanding their skill by taking lessons on another instrument like guitar. I believe that music has a way of opening the eyes of some students that struggle in other subject areas of school.
Positive experiences in school can make all the difference in the world to some students. There are so many negative things in the world these days and many students don't get many positive experiences. Learning to play an instrument that opens doors to other instruments creates this totally new way of thinking for some students and gets them interested in coming to school.
