Breakout EDU allows students to practice problem solving, creative thinking, and teamwork in a fun game like environment. Students are given a locked box with the goal of unlocking all the locks to find what's inside. They are given clues which they have to work together and use their knowledge and other resources around the room to solve in order to unlock each lock on the box. This hands on activity can be tailored to the skills my students need more help learning and the hands on nature of the game helps my students retain the skills targeted. Students have to collaborate to solve puzzles and codes, discover clues, and build their listening and teamwork skills. All these materials will be used in collaboration with grade level teachers. All these materials can be reused to create new games and reinforce new material throughout the year. Initially we plan to use our breakout game to make literacy and language more engaging for our students as well as prepare our students for statewide testing vocabulary and wording. We can continue to build our use of breakout edu type games to cover more subjects and content throughout the years.
