Thesauruses are valuable resources for enriching the students' original pieces of writing. The students are eager to express their ideas using words they have never used before or by using words they think I do not know. They enjoy finding words they think others do not know so they can be the ones to explain the meaning and boast about using an unknown word. By using thesauruses, students are practicing spelling, utilizing their decoding skills, alphabetizing, and exploring word usage. When students have individual resources to use, it sparks an inspiration to just explore and experiment whereas sharing does not support the opportunity for exploration.
