I am a reading teacher for all 5th/6th graders in a small, rural school district in Michigan. As an avid reader myself, I love turning students on to different genres and share my passion for books. Often my students turn me on to books I would never dream of reading, so it's a mutual exchange for us. Furthermore, I have a profound commitment to make my reading lessons rigorous and challenging in the hope of preparing my students for the next level of schooling, as well as preparation for the world of work someday. I view myself as a life-longer learner, and I am continuously reading professionally seeking the newest reading strategies and instructional practices to hone my craft and better serve my students. Although I have been teaching for several years, I know I must continue to change with the times in order to make an impact with this new generation of learners in this fast paced, technological world.
