A listening center brings literacy benefits such as enhancing multi-sensory experience with books, or helping with reading process and comprehension. It also provides opportunities for playing creatively, cooperative learning, and meaningful communicating between native and non-native speakers.
A listening center is a great tool to provide my minority students with rich learning experience. With a listening center, I can help my students with learning strategies in general and reading comprehension strategies in particular. They can listen to audio books, then do many follow-up activities such as reread, retell, writing about reading, so on and so forth. They can record their own reading, too. The possibilities for literacy as well as other skills are endless!
