My 3rd grade class is located in a high poverty area, with over 80% receiving free/reduced lunches. Many students in this area see gang violence and crime as part of their daily lives. Our school's zone includes some of the oldest public housing in our city. Some of my students' families have lived in this housing for several generations.
If they are to escape the generational poverty they find themselves in, education will be key. My focus in my classroom is on teaching academics while building good character. Reading and math are my priorities, with science and history supported through reading.
My students deserve the best I can give them, and I will work diligently to provide them with that. I believe in them and what they can accomplish. They will be world-changers!
