My students are elementary band students who are learning instruments for the first time! They are in 5th and 6th grade in Northern Virginia. We teach a variety of instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. In my classroom, students are expected to be able to read music using multiple tools/techniques. They learn their first notes using games and method books. They learn rhythms through aural, visual, and kinesthetic methods. We could use all the supplies we could get to provide students with as many opportunities as possible for them to learn and grow as young musicians!
