As beginning readers, my students need reinforcement through read-alouds which can come in the way of listening to books on CDs. Headphones will allow students to choose books of interest to listen to without disturbing classmates. They will also enable students to listen to a story without distractions from other students in the room.
Personal CD players with individual headphones will allow students to choose different reading spots around the classroom where they can listen to their own books. Students will be able to get comfortable while reading, whether in a chair, on a beanbag, or lying on the carpet.
