My classroom library is a place that invites students to sit back, relax, and engage in reading to self. Students are given time every day to read to self. Reading more often is the key to improving students' reading levels. Our school uses Guided Reading instruction to reach each student at their current reading level. In order to improve their reading, it is important that I offer new and exciting titles for them to explore during independent reading time.
Finding that "home run" book that sparks a life long interest in reading is my goal with this project. The books I chose for this project reflect ones that I have seen students read and enjoy. This year, I am changing grade levels from 1st grade to 4th. I taught 4th grade previously, but as we know, times have changed, as well as the interests of my students. Having newer books would greatly help me reach my new students from the beginning, which increases the chances of reaching a higher reading level.
