We need an incubator, lamp, jar feeder, and books on chicks and chickens for hands on, real life experiences with animals to deepen their understandings of animal life cycles and animal needs. This project allows students to have hands-on experience with the life cycle of a chicken. We will use incubators with a variety of eggs to hatch. During a three week incubation, students will be involved in seeing the eggs rotate or rotating the eggs themselves. We will check the eggs with a candler on days 7 and 14, to see how they are growing.
On hatching day, students will be able to watch live chickens hatch from eggs! We will have a variety of colors and sizes of chicks for students to engage with and learn from. The books will be used to support students through pictures and examples, as we incubate the eggs for three weeks. The beauty of this project is that while it will impact 100 students this year, it will continue to impact future students at our school!
