With a campus population of more than 65% of ethnic minority, Kemp-Carver results a multicultural campus. I see soccer as a multicultural sport and a good opportunity to celebrate diversity. In addition, as an educator I want to help develop other skills such as: camaraderie, respecting authority, control of emotions, self-esteem, patience, teamwork, dedication, and resilience. The sport of soccer is a window to develop all these skills, which can be the foundation of their college readiness. Our students show a passion for the sport of soccer. Unfortunately, due the lack of human resources and soccer equipment, they never have had the opportunity to participate in community tournaments. Our school has a limited budget, and this allows only to buy school supplies and textbooks, but no shirts or other extra-curriculum materials. Although, shirts and soccer balls seem like non-related school supplies, shirts will give my students school's identity and sense of belonging. On the other hand, soccer balls take an important role in my project because will help my students to practice and improve their soccer skills. I am hoping that this project gets funded, and give them the opportunity to explore other areas, learn in a different environment, and become role models in our school and community.
