Students will be able to use a QR code app on the Kindle Fire to scan the code on any book in the listening library to be directed to a reading of that story. Living in a 21st century world means that many of the experiences we once had using radios, cassette tapes and even CDs have all transitioned to digital media players such as tablets.
My goal is to bring my classroom's listening center into the 21st century by adding Kindle Fires and QR code labels. Listening centers allow students to follow along with books learning word direction, connect spoken words to written words, voice inflection, punctuation and an appreciation of books. Through the use of coded book recordings family members, older students or the Pre-K students in my classroom will be encouraged to participate in the recordings. Giving the Pre-K students even more incentive to utilize the listening center.
What will we do with the Kindle Fires during times of the day other than free choice center times, you ask. We will use the tablets for App smashing, book creating, green screen projects, coding with PBS apps, playing Kahoot class made games, Scholastic: Clifford's My Big World readings, and the list goes on! We would love for you to help us build skills that will help us be successful in the 21st century.
