Using a power drill and a glue gun we already possess, our club will be able to create several variations of "color bots" by attaching battery packs to mini motors. Students will have to practice completing circuits to get their bot up and running. From there, students will experiment by attaching markers to their robot at varying heights to observe the change in arc angles made by the bots. Lastly, we can attach the clothespins to the motor and make conjectures about how the positioning/balance of the motor affects the size and angle of the marks made by the robot.
These materials will allow my students to participate in multiple, hands-on labs where they can explore physics, engineering, AND art! Almost all members of the STEM club are interested in some form or engineering and they always absorb concepts best when working to create something tangible.
