Students in my fifth and sixth grade reading class participate in book clubs during the second half of the year. All students look forward to this opportunity for many different reasons. Students are able to choose books that are new and interesting, create their own reading assignments and hold one another accountable, as well as discuss their books in depth with their peers.
Book clubs are designed to offer students engaging books that are available at a variety of reading levels so that all students can benefit.
The most difficult part of book clubs is finding all of these books so that students can be successful. I am constantly challenged with providing books that they haven't read, while also considering their interests and reading abilities. The books that I have requested will allow all students in my reading classes the opportunity to have a successful book club experience and hopefully, continue their love for reading!
