With the spring and warm weather approaching, our track and field team is eager to begin its season, competing in the Boston Public Schools District Competition. Our school is located in Mattapan, Massachusetts and serves a very culturally diverse community with many needs. The gear and uniforms involved in this project will allow us to create a strong and empowering track and field team. We would like to build character, confidence, and a sense of community pride for our students and their families through our track and field program. It is our belief that our students will benefit greatly from participating on our team by working together towards common goals that will enrich and impact their learning experiences far beyond the classroom. Hopefully, the lessons learned on this team will help them achieve greater success in their future, with the help of two teachers as coaches, along with volunteers, staff, and parents. We strive to have a multicultural team and program of boys and girls who will learn, practice, and perform the basic skills of the sport in healthy competition. We also strive to teach and promote the qualities of commitment, teamwork, cooperation, discipline, individual and group development, and a sense of accomplishment. Our team does not have track and field uniforms, and many students do not have the basic clothing appropriate for the sport. This project will provide them with a uniform so that they can not only compete in track and field, but feel confident while doing so. In addition to a uniform, this project will provide us with the basic resources needed to create a successful track and field team.
